BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) method (Great Britain) is described as a mother of sustainable building certification methods with more than 21 years of history. Its special version is tailored for European countries mainly by utilisation of national and European standards and SI units. Currently there are operational number of national schemes of BREEAM for Nederland, Norway, Sweden and Spain and it is expected that other European countries will develop their national modification in the short period of time.
The BREEAM method is based on the assessment of the 10 categories with different environmental weightings: Management (12%), Health & Wellbeing (15%), Energy (19%), Transport (8%), Water (6%), Materials (12,5%), Waste (7,5%), Land Use & Ecology (10%), Pollution (10%) and Innovation (10%). The resulting building assessment is declared in the following scale:
Unclassified < 30%
Pass ≥ 30%
Good ≥ 45%
Very good ≥ 55%
Excellent ≥ 70%
Outstanding ≥ 85%

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) method (USA) is the internationally recognised sustainable building certification system with more than 10 years of history. LEED assessment method is primarily developed for USA based on U.S. standards and IP units.

Method is based on the assessment of 6 categories with different number of maximum possible points: Sustainable Sites (28), Water Efficiency (10), Energy and Atmosphere (37), Materials and Resources (13), Indoor Environmental Quality (12), Innovation in Design (6) and Regional Priority (4). Resulting building assessment is declared in the following scale:

Certified (40 - 49 points)
Silver(50 - 59 points)
Gold(60 - 79 pints)
Platinum (80 and more points)
